Just a quick question...did you install PS as you or as another user?
I wonder, I've run into some odd problems with other programs when
that's done. MS Office is one.
FWIW, my install of Photoshop (CS, not CS2) has always been reliable,
which is the experience with all of our users...PS is almost as
commonly installed as MS Word is here, and I've never had anyone
complain of this particular problem.
Comparing Photoshop to Graphic Converter is like comparing a well
made hand saw to a pro-grade table saw. The two tools do similar
things but one is vastly more capable and their overlap is minimal.
No way would I consider GC a replacement for PS. But I can fire up
GC, crop a jpeg, and save it in the time it takes PS to lumber to a
start.
But, then, if you're living in an apartment where you need to cut a
bookshelf or picture frame once in a while, I wouldn't recommend
using a table saw, either. PS is an anti-mosquito howitzer for most
people.
I use both regularly, wouldn't trade one for the other.
