Bruce,
Not to confuse the issue, or to add bananas or pears to the
comparison of Apples and oranges (Photoshop vs Graphic Converter),
but have you any experience with the new Photoshop Elements and
it's usefulness. I am an owner of Photoshop versions 3 thru 6,
which I used with MacOS 9 and earlier, but haven't so far thought
the upgrade to ver. 7, CS or CS2, looked worth the money to be
able to use PS in Panther or Tiger. I have just been keeping an
old G3 to use for PS and Illustrator, and a few other programs,
which I am too cheap to upgrade on, so far. I have heard that PS
Elements does about as much PS as most non-professionals can do
anyway. Have you had any experience with PS Elements?
Some, poked at it a little.
V3 is much improved over V2. I like it, and for 99% of what 90% of
people need Photoshop for, Elements will work just fine. You don't
get as fine-grained control over things, you can't work with
individual color channels, and it doesn't do 4-color separations, but
otherwise it's admirably close in spirit to the old Photoshop Light
they used to bundle with scanners.
There will be things you miss from V6, but there will be things you
have, like the history, which is really nice.
