Hello to all.
My daughter is entering college and she wants a new iBook to
replace her aging iMac G3 500MHz.
I'd love to have your views on the following:
1) How likely it is that the reportedly soon-to-be-released Intel
iBook will materialize in, say, February?
The rumors of these have been hot and heavy, this (the laptop) is
the segment that Apple MOST wants to get moving in, so I'd say the
chances are quite good you should wait until AFTER this years
MacWorld to buy. If nothing else, there will be smoking deals on any
leftover G4 systems.
2) How likely is it that it will be a buggy nightmare?
This is hard to tell. Apple's had the OS running on X86 all along, so
I suspect it'll run a lot better than most folks expect. The issue
will be software: I expect that no matter how easy i is to port the
software, there's going to be a dearth of Intel-compatible software
for a while, so most things will be running in emulation.
3) How likely is it that it will run Windows, maybe a hacked version?
Very likely; moreover, it's unlikely any "hacking" will be needed;
Apple doesn't care what you run on it after they've sold it to you.
