<Yes, I'm sure it can be done, but will require tinkering. I once
installed Yellow Dog on a 100 mHz Performa (it was kinda slow and
choppy). Ubuntu was designed for New World (iMac or later) ROM machines.
You will need bootX instead of Yaboot, a RAM disk with the kernel, a RAM
disk with the installer, and OS 8 or 9 for booting. I've not tried this
with Ubuntu, but check the forums
<http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=95> I'll bet someone has
already done it, and would be willing to help. You'll love it when it
works!>

Thanks. Yeah, I already read about needing bootX and the OS 9
requirement, which is not a problem, since OS 9.2.2 is what I run on my
Beige anyway. I'm saving your email with the comments for when the Ubuntu
stuff gets here for reference, especially to look up that URL for the
forums in case I need help with it.

Anyway, originally my research indicated that YDL (even though that, too,
was going to require the bootX and OS 9) was supposedly the "right" Linux
to try with my Old World Mac. It was coming to this list to confirm that,
plus a combination of hearing a few cries of "I love Ubuntu and so will
you!" with my inability to find, much less d/l a free ISO for YDL, which
made me investigate Ubuntu and ultimately request the CDs.

Well, thank you again, and once I get the CDs and do the "experiments,"
I'll post with an update.
