That's just bull. Gateway is now the University's primary supplier of PC systems, and we've been buying them since 1995 here in the College, I've worked on hundreds over the last ten years. > > Gateway using what is in every respect an ATX power supply except > the locations of the mounting screw holes Again, I call bull. We've replaced out-of-warranty power supplies with off the shelf parts in a lot of Gateways. > > Apple making what is in every regard a USB 1 cable except for some > tabs so that only their keyboard would fit it That's the keyboard extension cable, and those tabs are to ensure that the cable doesn't come apart easily. And for crying out loud it's freakin' $1.99 USB cable... And Compaq hasn't required special "Compaq" memory since the first 386 systems hit the market. None of what Ive said is bull. More recently Gateway has switched over to an ATX standard. Ive seen the tabbed CD ROMs, I tried fitting an ATX power supply into a Gateway system, the power supply worked (so all the voltages were ATX standard), but the mount holes did not line up when using the ATX PS. Im not making this stuff up. The Compaq memory, well, the folks at Radio Shack disagree with you (not like they have any credibility). Chris P -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
