Whether or not it requires this is entirely up to whoever writes the
programs. Like the transitions from 68K to PPC, or OS 9 to OS X: some
will be free, some will be nominal, and some (alas, like Adobe apps,
I expect) will be expensive because they'll combine it into the next
upgrade.
Just like Apple releasing Aperature and then stating that you
need a Dual 2 Ghz G5 with 2 Gig of RAM to run it properly, makes a
$500
(already overpriced) program a $3,500 program because of the hardware
required to use I properly.
That isn't even REMOTELY the same issue. Apple didn't deliberately
write Aperture to require that kind of computing horsepower, the
application itself needs it. Moreover, that's their "recommended
system," Minimum is a 1.25 Ghz G4 with a Core Video compatible video
card.
More powerful software invariably needs more powerful computers, and
has absolutely nothing to do with changing CPU's and consequent
compatibility issues. You need more than an mac IIci to run
Photoshop, right? Change happens.
I realize there is a Classic type program that will allow use of my
present
software, but as in all programs like this the software will not
run at full
speed and function.
Neither did 68K programs on PPC systems or Classic apps in OS X systems.
Besides, it's not like PPC versions of programs are going to
magically vanish. The first intel systems are low end, not what you
would be running Aperture on in the first place.
