Hey, G-Listers!
I just recently acquired a new 17" TFT flat panel monitor and
hooked it up to my upgraded (now G4 500 mhz) Blue & White Smurf
Machine. The texture is extremely grainy, noticeably more so than
the old 17" CRT monitor that was hooked up to it previously. My
first reaction was to download the lastest ATI drivers and see if
that would help (it didn't). I've since replaced the Graphics card
with a new ATI Radeon 7000 (less than $20 on eBay! The guy's got a
bunch of them) and the System Profiler recognizes it and its 32 meg
VRAM, but it's still very grainy. Updating the ROM didn't help
either. Ideas, anyone? Thanking you in advance for your input.
Check that you're running it at the right resolution. Many LCDs have
a specific 'native' resolution that they look good at, and look like
crap at others.
It's also possible you got a bad monitor.
What's the make and model of the new panel?
