*Fonts are complicated, because there's many different places to put them....

/Library/Fonts: fonts available to all users of the computer
/Users/<username>/Library/Fonts: fonts available only to that user
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Fonts: Adobe's effort to just plain screw
everything up.
/System/Library/Fonts : Fonts the system depends upon. Some programs won't
run if the proper font isn't here. Like all things in /System leave them the
<bleep> alone.

OS X is NOT OS 9, not only is there no need to get into the system and futz,
doing so can really screw things up.

The best advice I can suggest for the recently migrated is hands off until
you learn the new organization, and resist the urge to 'fine tune' things..it
will be like a confident VW Bug home mechanic trying to tune an old Ferrari
with
6 two barrel carbs...You will soon be in over your head and messing things up.

Definitely heed Bruces' advice. Us migrators just have the urge to futz
around and usually "untune" things in the process.

However, any old-time home auto mechanics can probably fine tune 6 two barrel
carbs in any old car -- but these new autos with electronic fuel injection
and the latest autotronics is another beast -- like OS X as the analogy goes.

I suppose I will be seeing the analogy police shortly :-).

Oh, and fonts in OS X -- I just started to get control my 1000s of fonts in
OS 9 with Suitcase. Fonts are a big problem for me in OS X.--glen (digested)
