Traditionally, i.e. For a long time, the only other software that is blessed to be able to use DigiDesign hardware for audio processing and I/O production is MOTU's Digital Performer, which is still the case today. DP is more flexible when it comes to OS compatibility, but one does have to be careful about which version of PT to bundle with, in turn, which version of DP to use. The first OS X native version of DP is version 4.x, which is compatible w/ ProTools 6 (it being the first OS X compatible version). Hope this helps some.
