Here is another option for people (like me) with a thumb joint problem.

Hit the power button (keyboard or box) then before the chime hit the Cmd-Opt 
with the left  index and middle figners and P-R keys with the right thumb and 
index finger for the needed chimes; never failed for me with my small hands. 
Should also work for the O & F keys if needed--glen
