Brother lasers, HL-5250DN (30 ppm, duplexing) and MFC-8460N (30 ppm,
non-duplexing, scan/copy/print), both of which I purchased as so-
called "factory refurbs", but were actually brand-new in every
respect, but were sold as refurbs, apparently to conflict with
retailers.

The two named, above, share the same consumables, and ... so far ...
have been supported by every version of MacOS I have installed ...
certainly from 10.3 through 10.5.6.

Search for the model number and "refurbished" to find a seller.

My HL-5250DN was purchased from Amazon.com. My MFC-8460N was purchase
from JustTheFAX.com. Both offered same day shipping which was "free".

Wound up paying no more than one-half price for each.

Both are based upon the same marking engine, and both have PSL3
emulation, network printing, and expandable RAM to at least 544 MB.

The cheap ones don't have expandable RAM, and don't have network
printing, nor PSL3 emulation.
