This is an uncommon combo drive model, I think it's an Apple OEM  
drive? The last firmware was version NAK7, but I have no idea where to  
get this firmware. Many of the Sony drives were rebadged LiteOn drives  
that could be cross-flashed, but in this case, I kinda doubt the drive  
firmware is your problem. I don't think upgrading this firmware would  
be realistically feasible unless you have a PC, some experience with  
firmware updates, and some time. Even then, it probably won't do much  
for your specific problem of not being able boot an OEM Leopard  
Install DVD.

I'd suggest trying the verbose boot dialog to see what's going on when  
you try to boot the DVD. You'd need to select the DVD in Startup Disk,  
and then hold the Cmd-v keys at restart. You should then get a black  
screen with the startup dialog that may help you to further diagnose  
the problem.

Also, you might try using Leopard Assist to install with:
