They say UPS's are good for about 3 years max. I've
often used them for longer though.

When I checked getting a new battery it seemed the battery
cost as much (with shipping) as just buying a new APC.

You can try a new battery, I'd be interested in your experience.

Could the replace battery light be burned out? Just a wild guess.

I may have had a flaky one, I don't quite remember. One that seemed
to come and go. It was ancient, I replaced it altogether.
