Could this be a PSU problem? Normally, when Geekbench starts its performance test, the CPU heat will increase. If the fan pitch is a direct indication of the fan speed (what I believe it to be) it doesn't make much sense to me that the fan speed goes down. If you have access to an alternate power supply unit for your Mac, try it with Mac OS X 10.4.11 and see if that does any good.
