Try to boot when holding down the "Delete. Option, Command, Shift", keys  
(DOCS) You have to get the keys down at about the time the CD begins to spin. 
Some times it takes a few trys.
Also some of the older CD ROM drives if not an Apple drive will not boot but 
will mount CD's.
