Can I simply CCC my OS X 10.5.8 G4 to my G5?

Yes. OS X, provided you don't try to use a version older than your hardware supports, is universal

Are there different versions of 10.5.8?

Could I just insert the SATA drive, also formatted on a G4, into the G5, and select it as the Startup disk?

That would be easier than CCC-ing it.

Maybe I'm overthinking this before I try it, but ...

Are most SATA hard drives compatible with the G5 Quad Core?

For example, when you read earlier Specs about the G5, it says you can install "up to a 500GB" SATA drive. I'm guessing that was the largest one available at the time ... 1TB+ now should be ok?
