Hi Kara.

Personally I don't really have a fixed scale on things its a general design aspect. There are some games I have bought in the past that I likely wouldn't if they'd been more expensive, and others that I've gladly paid more for. Generally though the more replayability, interest and shear good design in a game, the more I'm willing to pay. This doesn't always mean random content however since I have never regretted buying shades of doom, or indeed the Gma Pinball games despite many of the game elements being very much the same each time you play. I think the only game I can honestly say i regretted buying was Monkey business. At the time I bought it there was no demo, and while I heard kelly sepergia's review, I did not fully understand from that review the level of the audio. I've never had luck playing the game due to lack of precision in it's audio field and navaids that don't do what they're supposed, ---- not to mention control issues (having a monkey run into the stream and be uncatchable because I can't use space to swim and! swing my net is annoying).

I haven't regretted any of the other draconis title's I've bought, and in fairness I think mb could've been different if I'd played the demo, but hopefully that will give you an idea.

I will say however often it does help to know about games first. I am not generally a big fan of racing games. I've tried top speed, all of Jim's efforts and the game drive, but they've done nothing for me at all. I was however very surprised by Rail racer. I don't know why, but it appealed to me far more than most racing games have ever done previously. Maybe it was the scifi setting, maybe the difference in tracks, maybe the challenge of mastering the mechanics I don't know, but it just made a difference.

had I however not tried the game demo, I would certainly not have bought it, nor would I be looking forward to the release of rr2 now, despite Che's podcasts on the subject.

design is often something that only shows when you yourself play a game, not when it's mearly heard or talked about.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.
