Hi Dark,

Correct. In my twenty-some years of using screen readers Jaws is the
one and only screen reader that has the issue with attempting to gain
complete control of the keyboard by setting a keyboard hook. I've used
Window-Eyes, NVDA, Supernova, and so on and none of them behaved that
way. I have no idea why Jaws does it, but it is a right annoying pest
in my opinion.
Also I find it a bit amusing for the directions of game x to tell me
to unload my screen reader etc, when my screen reader, NVDA, doesn't
have that problem. In fact, I can usually just press insert+s to
silence speech and happily run the game without any problems without
unloading, configuring sleep mode, and all that jazz. I think we as
fusers of alternative screen readers need to be more vocal with
developers and inform them how our particular screen readers work so
they can adjust the documentation accordingly rather than assuming
everything works like Jaws which is not true.

Cheers!
