problem is. there is no money in making games accessible. Ok. so. let's say 1000 blind folks decide to buy a game that was made accessible inthe mainstream market. that's like 45000 dollars assuming the game is 45 bucks, which is usually what games go for. That's chump change when compared to the enormous volumes of games that are sold. It is nice to see that developers are aware of those with visual impairments, but there is no reason for them to spend extra money that they won't get back. Now.. If there were four million blind people who would all buy the latest greatest game if it were accessible, then maybe that would be a different story. I know this list is only a cross section of the number of blind people there are, but one thing we have to ask ourselves is on this list, how many people would buy a new game if it were accessible. I know a lot of folks are older and enjoy the card games more than fast paced games. You could even back it up further though. I know there are a number of sports fans. Let's say EA sports put out mlb 2008 for the x box whith full commentary as well as audio cues. Now. the x box 360 retails for somewhere around 400 bucks I believes? Unless the price has dropped. you're looking at 445 bucks or so for one game. who honestly is going to pay that. who honestly can afford that? Who honestly can see the need for that? I think there are so many more important things than entertainment.
I really like to see the push to let the developers know about those with visual impairments, but like Yvonne said. it all boils down to money.
