Ok, attacking and defending happen automatically whenever one of your
military units is in the same square as one of the enemy's units or
buildings. Peasants run away by default, though you can set them to
stay and fight, which will invariably get them killed, but may buy
you time to get other units up to the battlefield.
To build anything new, you have to find a meadow. You begin with a
few of these already present, and every time you exhaust a wood or a
gold mine, you create another meadow..
