Hi Tom,
I am glad you found the Vista problem for Jim Kitchen and the GMA games.
I want to add this section to my Sarah game instructions and will add your
name as part author if you wish:
Running the Sarah game under Vista:
In Windows Vista all applications typically save their settings in the
c:\Users\User Name\App Data folder,
which use to be the
c:\Documents And Settings\User Name\Application Data
folder under Windows XP,
and where Vista expects to find settings for games, and other programs.
Each user should have their games saved on local folders rather than
globally saved to say
c:\Program Files\Sarah and the Castle of Witchcraft and Wizardry 10.
However, if you have Vista setup as a single user, only one account, you
should have no problems with any games since you will have Administrator
rights. However, if you have multiple user accounts then you are going
to encounter problems with several accessible games and not just PCS games.
Any game that needs to write to the
c:\Program Files\
directory to save a game, save settings, will be denied by user account
control for non-administrator accounts.
The solution I propose in that case is to install the games locally for a
user in some place such as
c:\Users\Your User name\Games
where "Your User Name" is the user name of the person you are installing
the games for.
For example, for my Vista computer, I put my Sarah game in
c:\Users\Phil\Games\PCS\
so the full path to the Sarah game folder is,
c:\Users\Phil\Games\PCS\Sarah and the Castle of Witchcraft and Wizardry 10.
I also have an icon pointing for the Sarah game to the SCW.EXE file.
Since that is a local path for my user name I have no problem saving games
or changing game settings.

I suggest having your Vista computer setup for multiple users, and also
running without administrator rights because that is more secure, and aids
in the
prevention of viruses, Trojan horses, and other malware. It is too bad
not many of the blind users out there are aware of these security measures.
