Hi Jim, I am not trying to flame here, but it just seams though you don't want to except that standards are changing in the newer Microsoft operating systems. Game developers, not just you, have been saving to the game's root directory for years, and Microsoft states that is bad practice. Ideally a game should be installed to c:\Program Files and it's user settings should be installed to c:\Users\User Name\App Data where configurations and settings go. Installing a game to say c:\Users\User Name\Games is just a quick fix for the problem, but again is still not how things should ideally be done. As for a game developer having to completely rewrite his or her work I don't believe that is the case. At most a game developer would have to rewrite the areas of code dealing with loading and saving files to locate the user's local folders and save there. I don't think that is much to ask really.
