Yes, outlining is a big help when game programming. In fact, is a good
idea when doing any kind of programming. However, it is extremely
helpful in this case as there is a lot more than just the code to
think about. You have a complete story, game characters, weapons,
special items, whatever and you need to get all your ideas in order
before you even sit down to right that game. It is one thing if you
want a game like Solitaire where there is just a deck of cards and the
basic rules and quite another if we are talking a game with a complex
storyline and characters.
