Thanks. I just call that the command prompt.
Back in the dos days when programming games one would want to make sure that
the game wrote the text to the bios or console. That way all dos screen
readers would automatically speak the text.

No jim, I mean the console command prompt window in xp which emulates dos to
some extent.
I've found dos games like fallthru and drone run fine with it, and I can use
the dos virtual focus to read the screen.
