A joystick is a physical "stick" that stands on a base. You grip it and use your thumb and possibly one finger to press the buttons, which are mounted on the stick. You make directional movements by actually moving the stick left or right. A game pad is a comtroller which you hold in both hands, and has one or more small sticks and a directional pad along with several buttons. Xbox, Playstation, and any other gaming system all use game pads as their controlers. If you have the one I think you're referring to, you actually have a game pad.

Having never used, or even gotten my fingers on a game pad, can someone describe a good one that might be used in games for the blind and how they work, compared to a joystick? Heck, I don't even remember the model of the joystick I have, but Thomas Ward did a very good review of it. I got it for around $15 at Wal-Mart some time ago, and the cord is retractable. --- Laughter is the best medicine, so look around, find a dose and take it to heart. --- Gamers mailing list __ [email protected] If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [email protected].
