Hi charles.

In many games "donating" is just that. In alteraeon for instance, while you can! earn various bennifits like extra practices and storage space with donations, none are bennifits you can't get elsehwhere in the game with enough playing. take puppet nightmares. There is a shop which accepts a curstom currency called credit. You earn creddit pretty constantly in the game, for example every 25 battles you win earns you 20 credit, thus play for long enough and you can afford everything. however, if you donate to the game you can get far more credit.

in sryth however, the tocans needed for the better weapons just weren't available otherwise in the game, and often the gm had things like lotteries where you had to pay a fee of tocans in custom currency, that apart from various account upgrades to buy.

A game like core exiles just quite honestly has a shop, with no custom currency or similar, but Ce's items tend to be actual things such as extra pods to fitt to your ship, making them far more like a real perchice in a shop offline.

it's a fine line indeed betwene donating and perchicing, but either system can become money grabbing, and for me, Sryth crossed that line.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.
