My $0.02 regarding what using a UUID could potentially solve instead of using some form of hostname: 1) RRD filename stays unique even though you may have DNS problems, eg. hostname not being resolved and gets renamed to ip address 2) Host changed name/ip even though it is the same physical server, the only way to restore/keep historical data is by manually renaming the filename -- with UUID, this is not necessary For now that's all I could think of off the top of my head. Those users who wants this feature implemented could probably add to this.
