My DHCP IP address from my Cable Modem is very static. I can leave the box
off for days and it'll keep the same IP. But if I change NICS it'll give me
another IP. Others in my office on a different ISP say their IP's change
about once every month/two months. I've had my IP for a year, very handy for
the VPN.

Subject: [gb-users] Cable Modem IP Lease

Everyone,

Just switched to a cable modem setup at home. They use DHCP for the IP
setup. Those that have cable modem connections, how often does your IP
change? Is there anyway to prevent this and always have the same IP
assigned?

For example, when I first setup the modem and DHCP is negotiated a certain
IP address. Then I experimented with adding an EXT alias IP in addition to
the previously DHCP assigned IP. Now when I reboot the GB I automatically
get the IP I setup for the EXT alias as my main IP assigned by DHCP. Will
this continue to always happen? Have I set up my GB to always request the
same IP and now have a pseudo-static IP?

Thanks in advance for your comments!

Sincerely,
Mason Landrum
