FWIW, I believe Mike's experience is pretty typical. However, be aware that several of the broadband providers explicitly prohibit VPN's in their residential service agreements. Notably Comcast: http://www.infoworld.com/articles/op/xml/02/01/28/020128opfoster.xml Basically, their contention is that a VPN user will likely chew up more bandwidth than a casual home user. Thus, you need to pay for business-level service and get a static address if you will use a VPN.
I have no idea how serious they are about actually blocking VPN traffic. -Mark -----Original Message----- From: Mike Burden [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, February 25, 2002 11:02 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [gb-users] Cable Modem IP Lease > -----Original Message----- > From: Mason Landrum [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Monday, February 25, 2002 10:56 AM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: [gb-users] Cable Modem IP Lease > > > Everyone, > > Just switched to a cable modem setup at home. Other than that, it's never changed. I have VPN configurations set up that rely on my IP address and I've never had to change them except the one time mentioned above.
