I have been using three 3C509B's in my GnatBox without a problem since the 2.0.2
product. Upgraded to 3.0.1 and all is still working fine.

Both cards are supported, however they are very different beasts.
Although the difference in the models is simply the letter "B" the
chipsets are entirely different. Many ethernet card manufacturers
have pull this little trick, I guess it saves them some money since
they don't need to make new boxes, literature, etc. GNAT Box network
card drivers are based on the chipsets rather than the card models.
There are drivers that take certain variations into account, but
generally it is based on the the values returned from the initial
hardware probe at boot time.

The 3c905B is supported in 3.x, in fact this card is used in the
GB-100 appliance box.
