This may or may not be helpful, but just wanted to let you know that I
have the exact same versions of OS X and Safari, and I am having no
problems with Gears on my own Gears-enabled sites, on Google Reader,
or on Google Docs.  I haven't tried on the sites you mention, so
perhaps it is something unique to Safari and those sites.  But there
doesn't appear to be any global problem with Safari and OS X.
