I've used a table saw with good success, but the recommended way is to score
(repeatedly) with a carpet knife, then break it. I've done it and it does work,
but it's tough to get the knife in the same groove all the time. I also tend to
flip the piece over and score exactly opposite of the first score. You may also
want to either sand the edges or using a blowtorch, smooth it that way (very
carefully, of course).
