A few years ago someone anonymously left a four foot caiman in a tank on my
front step (I am NOT making any of this up!). Since I did not want (and could
not accommodate) a caiman, I called various agencies (police, animal
shelters, etc.) seeking advice. I was advised by the reptile department at
Chicago's Brookfield Zoo to put the caiman in a freezer overnight. I didn't
do that, of course. An animal shelter helped me euthanize the caiman; I did
not get a belt or a pair of boots out of it.
