Hi Magnus and all,

I too keep Phelsuma and prefer live plants. Specific plants I have had
success with are Aglaonema (Chinese Evergreen), pothos, large-leaved
Peperomias, Sansiveria, and Ficus benjamina. These are all pretty
tolerant of my occasional neglect. My favorite is the Chinese evergreen
-- it has broad leaves, comes in plain green and variegated, and lets me
know if it really needs water by drooping ;-) I too keep them in pots,
usually buried in a substrate of about 3/8" gravel (too big for the gex
to swallow). I do stick pieces of artificial vines on the walls of the
terrariums as extra hiding spots.

It is important to wash new plants well and if the soil had bits of
perlite or pumice (light-colored stuff) to take off the old soil and
replace it with some without the perlite -- I have heard that gex will
eat it, and be injured. SuperSoil is one brand that does not have
perlite. Replacing the soil helps get rid of any chemicals, too.

Hope this helps,
Melody
