Hi!

I'll try this again... :)

>So, building a greenhouse using Plexiglas (UV-T) would allow in more UVB
>than a Zoomed Reptisun 5.0?

UVB from the sun depends on solar zenith angle (seasons), time of day and
latitude. There is really not much research done about how much UVB reptiles
actually need to start producing vit. D3. In humans and some animals there
has been established a term called Minimal Erythremal Dose, MED, which is
the amount of UV needed to turn the skin pink.
1 unit of MED is usually 40-140 mJ/cm2 (energy received by the skin).
1 MED unit provides about 12 days of vit. D3 in humans.
Now, compare a sunny winter-day in Boston and a Reptisun 5.0.
5 mJ/cm2 over three hours is produced in Boston during the winter, this
will not be able to start vit. D3 production. The Reptisun 5.0 will produce
20 mJ/cm2 over any exposed skin in less than 1 hour. This is proven to be
enough to start vit. D3 production in Iguanas.
So, as you see, in the summer a greenhouse would most likely provide more
UVB radiation than a artifical source, however in the winter you need some
other source.
