Word out is they (Phelsuma and a number of very rare Calumma and Fucifer chameleon species) were confiscated by USWS as soon as they entered the country. From what I've heard, there were a couple of dead animals (chameleons) and the remainder consisted of very healthy and alert specimens.
I don't know if they've been put down deliberately, but I seriously doubt the feds set these animals up promptly or correctly. I believe protocol is for these to be released to AZA facilities.
