I think John went into this in detail already, its another perfectly
valid way of working which decouples your project from the installed
gEDA symbol library.

I can't recall whether it was John, or someone else, who would also make
copies for things like "decoupling-cap.sym", which would have the
required attributes for whatever generic decoupling capacitor being used
in their project was.


All this aside, "abstract" / minimalist light, seems the way the gEDA
symbol library will be heading in the future (perhaps before 1.6.0,
even), so that ought to fit in well with your abstract symbols work.
