Sorry this is so long but I don't think I explained my problem well.

What I am doing is that I don't want to use a hosting company anymore and I
want to actually host the server myself at my static IP with my *own* DNS
server just like a hosting company would do. The problem I am having is how
do I get my DNS server that I setup to be the authoritative nameserver my
domain points to.

I have technically setup a name server but as far as the internet is
concerned it does not exist. It seems to me that I need to register the
name server some how in the DNS system.

Currently I have the domain gremlinradio.com and my registrar is
itsyourdomain.com. Mochahost.com is my hosting company and my name servers
are ns22.mochahost.com and ns23.mochahost.com.

What I have is a static IP (70.169.82.143) with Cox as my ISP. My new
server (web/ftp/mail/dns) I just created is not hosted by my ISP or another
hosting company but at my location by me. I want to be my own hosting
company so to speak including the name servers.

When someone types up anything at gremlinradio.com I want the DNS records to
point to and resolve at my name server which will then point to the
appropriate server at my location. The same as another hosting company
would do when they host the nameservers and website.

So with my domain being gremlinradio.com (70.169.82.143) I want my name
server to be something like ns1.gremlinradio.com (70.169.82.143). If you
typed up my domain your pc would go to my nameserver (at my location) and
ask for the ip of the web server which now would happen to be at the same
place.

I hope this make sense.

Thanks,
Kipp

Change the domain registrar's nameserver to point to your hosting
company's server and you should be all set.

I setup a local DNS server. I thought I could use my own DNS server and
have it be authoritative for my domain at my location. I currently have
my
domain registered and being hosted by a typical hosting company.

Your DNS server... is it local or do you want to make your DNS server
perminatly on the internet? Network Solutions is who I've used. You have
to register your domain name there, but I don't think Private DNS are
added, or its expensive. I haven't looked at this in years.. let me know
what you do find.

Subject: [General-discussion] Hosting my own SAM website

I have had a lot of problem with hosting companies and have decided I
want
to host my own stations web site. I have it all setup and working with
my
own web server, mail server, ftp server and DNS server. I am at the
point
where I need to point my domain to my DNS server but I just am not sure
exactly how it works.

I need to ask some questions about this but don't know where to turn. I
would appreciate it if anyone that knows this that is willing give me a
few
answers or maybe direct me to a DNS mailing list or forum where I can
get
some basic info.

Thanks

Kipp
