nore am i m8 i just muddle along to with mysql
http://php.about.com/od/mysqladministration/qt/repair_mysql.htm
personaly i use phpmyadmin
http://www.phpmyadmin.net/home_page/index.php
makes life easy but then in my case mysql is provided through xampp which
makes life for me very easy
http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html as all that is built in if you
have stand alone mysql installed on your system yes you will find it complex
& difficult to fix my sugestion to you would be to change over to using
xampp and the best thing is its completaly free and includes web host server
the lot with all the tools you could possably need make life easy for
yourself m8
