MS is certainly not open Source friendly! (duhg) Open Source does
offer a Dad a way to save a few bucks though.

There is no way to lock it down completely. Knowing my daughter as I
do, three extra mouse clicks to set a rule in a firewall would just
result in getting the firewall disabled.

I think she will be most reliant on three factors Open Source offers
MS Windows users:
1) Not mainstream = not a target for script kiddies
2) Using Yahoo Mail and an uptodate virus scanner = fewer email
viruses
3) Getting a system hosed does not require Microsoft's approval to
reload.

I can understand her desire for Microsoft products. She is a
mainstream teenager. She buys the things she sees on TV and believes
the news she sees there. That is one of the reasons I am sending her
to college. She needs to know about Horacio, and the things he never
dreamt of.

Again, thanks for the help. It is much appreciated!
