Who, me?  Zealot? Really?  Not me, never.... ;-)

Windows is fine for desktops, but that is about it in my book.

As far as the issue at hand, I spoke to Ontrack once before.  They
offered to do a free estimate if it did not entail removing the
platters.  It it included removig platters, I think it was a hundred
bucks or so, then for the data recovery between $100 and $2000
depending on what they had to do.  That was a few years back and the
personopted against it.  Guess the data was not that important after
all...

Assuming your drive has been submerged, I would think that would
guarantee platter removal.
