Sync problems in computers usually occur for 2 reasons.
1) Low CPU power.
2) 2 different devices for one goal.

The first one is very common with especially cheap set top DVD players.
They do not have enough CPU power to decode Mpeg2. It happens also with
slow computers. Amount of memory might have something to do with this as
well, but mostly affects (operates) only as buffer between the change of
vob files or layers on dvd.

The second is often problem when using one device for audio, and another
for video. I have PVR-250, and if I try to view something from real time
broadcast through computer, I have huge audio sync problems. When I view
something straight of the HD, I have less sync problems.

IF I would have audio and video done through one device, there usually
are no sync problems as long as the device was correctly engineered.

I've been on and off with setting up one of my linux boxes to replace my
VCR. Due to too short weeks and days, I currently have the above system
in windows box, with exactly same problems.

I did finally have time to set up my soft RAID5 array to store all the
media. Works beautifully.
