Personally, I use BeyondTV under Windows. That along with the Hauppage
card was purchased for me as a gift in thanks for some computer work I
did or else I'd be still struggling with MythTV. There are other
alternatives under Windows such as SageTV (Terry Stockdale from this
group I believe uses it) and GBPVR(free).

I just think that the MythTV developer(s?) need to fine tune some of the
memory management issues with the program. Or maybe my Gentoo compiler
settings were a little too liberal?!?!? :D You didnt' mention what
distro you would be attempting it under.

Myth of course doesn't cost anything for you to start using and find out
if you have the same memory management issues that I had. Maybe YMMV.

Also, one point that you can consider is that MythTV creates a special
and obscure container called NuppelVideo to store its files in. I am
almost certain that mplayer does not support those files out of the box
and must have mythtv support compiled in (use="mythtv" on gentoo). I
have been unable to get my XBOX to read those files at all.

Another issue I've had when attempting to stream files with my Xbox is
that the files that MythTV creates are not named anything special
(usually timestamped with a long string of digits) so if you attempt to
simply share a video directory over Samba to a PC without setting up a
MythFrontend all you will see is files named 1302200340203402.nuv.
