Hi Brian, I am now running on Mojave, but I do remember having to do a song and dance to get around the 'protection' of previous Mac Os's. I seem to remember having to set the security level in settings to allow for running programs downloaded from the internet (but you may have already done that). Another thing would to be sure that you are downloading the non-AVX version if you computer does not have graphics unit acceleration. Past that I don't have a lot of advice. Perhaps the zip file will work for you. I think Ian Clark may be running El Cap and may have better advice.
