Yes I find that very compelling too!

I think Apple's policies for app inclusion are the big road block there.

It is unclear to me as to what you have done about those instructions. Which 
bits have you followed? Which bits didn't you follow?

I think the reality is that the installer for J on Pocket PC is not as 
full-featured as those for some other programs. You may find the instructions 
here useful too:

Although Jsoftware recommends installing J at \j602\  it seems to work OK in 
other locations too. The main change you'll need to make is to edit the .lnk 
files to point to the installed location (see instructions on wiki page above).

I have J installed on my microSD card (my phone is a bit short on ROM/RAM) and 
it works OK. Needed to create an appropriate profilex.ijs to make sure the user 
folder was created on the SD card too.
