A J proverb (I believe it's pronounced PROH-verb) and a literary proverb (pronounced PRAH-verb) are what are termed homographs--two words that are spelled the same but may differ in pronunciation and meaning. I believe that both of these words (proverb and proverb) are quite acceptable within the structure of the English language.
