One simple solution would be to use the PC and the AMiga together. You
need a socks server for the PC, and then when it is online you can use
the Amiga on the net via the PCs connection.

If that is the Genesis that came with the Ariadne II, you might have a
problem. Basically, it doesn't support internet connections, only LAN
ones. You will need the Genesis demo from Aminet or the Miami DX demo.

Yeah, that just means that the board if configured and ready to
send/receive data packets.

The problem would seem to be here, then. You need more info on the
modem. It will need something to get it online. I am no expert here (we
don't have cable modems in the UK, apart from NLT who want 40 a month
+160 for the modem!) but from what I have heard you could try this.
SOme cable modems have their own IP address (I think!) so maybe you can
finger it with a 'finger' program? Or Telnet to it? With the full
(non-AriadneII specific) version of Genesis I think the connection
wizard can cope with cable modems, so try that too. Also try MiamiDX's
MiamiInit program.

Sounds like it is listening for packets, you just arn't sending the
right ones. I think you need to configure Genesis (maybe with the setup
wizard) to send it some packets to tell it to go online. Try emailing
the tech support for the modem and ask them what you have to do. They
should know about configuring for Unix and that info should help.

Probably not. Try connecting the Amiga to the PC with a crossover cable
or hub (or a BNC cable if you can), and then ping the PC from the AMiga
to make sure it works. You need to look in the network control pannel
and check out the IP address that the TCP/IP is configured for, then try
to ping it. That way you know the boards are okay.
I'd like to know how you get on, as I'd like a cable modem too and C&W
might start doing a package soon.
