in general I expect some courtesy when someone's dealing with such

I am logging all irc conversations with my client, do i have to announce it everytime i join the channels? Come on, those channels are public, everybody knows that they are public and that they are read and logged by quite a lot of people. I like privacy, but you can't shout your credit card number in a football stadium and bring an action against everybody that wrote it on a sheet of paper.
