Well,
I read that autodesk is going to pay for the travel expenses therefore
a problem less to go.
I think that we need to be in that list no matter who will speak for
Geotools, if Chris go I am more than fine with that, otherwise as I
suggested we should ask Martin or Jody or someone else who is an
active developer and has time to go.
Yeah, this actually does bring up something I've been meaning to mention for awhile. New PMC's. Does anyone know where the current PMC list is? There are a couple nominations I'd like to make, and indeed I'm not sure I still should be a PMC as I don't do active development and don't really plan to. Though I plan to stay involved in design discussions where my historical knowledge is valuable, to still help usher new developers in, and indeed to help drive sustained support of GeoTools, by way of GeoServer. But we should maybe discuss what the role of PMC's is and should be.

It is a shame that we are not listed there yet, there are so many
people around that uses geotools, we need to be represented somehow I
would like to see GeoTools listed as well as all the other valuable
projects.
James was definitely invited, GeoTools has been in all the discussions, indeed there's no way it can't be with uDig and GeoServer in the mix. I think the list just reflects those who have accepted. Unfortunately Jody is no longer going to be on the continent. Perhaps we should hurry up and get Bryce up to PMC (unless he already is and I'm forgetting it and/or completely forgot), and have James ask autodesk if his invite can go to Bryce. Martin would also be good, but he's a bit far away, would take awhile just to travel there and back.

So rest assured GeoTools is deemed important by the sponsers, I think James was the top of the list of invitees that I saw. We just have to figure out who's going to represent. Even if it just defaults to me then I can start making sure the GeoTools name is included.

But regardless, I do think we should have an irc meeting about what geotools feels about the foundation. If it's a good thing, and what such a foundation would have to look like for GeoTools to be a part of it. I get the impression it's still up in the air, and if we have valuable, concrete feedback it will be incorporated.

Sorry if I am repeating myself or being annoying, it is the end of the
week maybe I am getting tired :-) .
No worries, and it's definitely good to stick up for GeoTools. I started making a bit of noise on the foundation list to stand up for the whole java stack we've got going, not just GeoServer. Indeed since GeoServer is already supported by a foundation it probably makes more sense for some of the other projects, GeoTools in particular, to join and get the legal protection.

best regards,

Chris

James is going to be gone, unfortunately. I chatted with him a bit.
I'm still GeoTools PMC and happy to represent the interests of GeoTools,
though it would definitely be nice if James or someone was there, for
sure.

I'm going out to California before this meeting, however, and hope to
pick James's brains on his thoughts, right before he leaves the states.

best regards,

Chris

I am trying to say that we need someone to be there, one of the PMC
presumably, or at least just someone to keep up the good name of
geotools!

Simone,
WRT one part of your subject, James has been invited directly but has
not responded yet. *I* will be there, and while I would not presume
to speak *for* Geotools, I can certainly speak knowledgeably *about*
it. It is possible to add a GeoTools representative other than me,
we just need to have one. I am hoping James will yet be able to come.

I've also volunteered if James can't make it.

Ian
