Would it be possible to hold WhereCamp the weekend before Where
2.0? My
thought it that Memorial Day weekend may be a problem for some
people.
Travel and hotel costs may be slightly higher and those with kids
or loved
ones with the day off may want to spend time with them.
When this has been discussed in the past the general idea was that
everyone is preparing for Where (presentations, organizing, booths,
etc.) so "sitting around" brainstorming may not be an option. In
addition, there are often many new announcements that people wouldn't
be able to talk about beforehand.
I could imagine that it would be interesting to demo/highlight some of
the interesting hacks at Where2.0 that come out of a preceding
WhereCamp, but WhereCamp is also exhausting, and going from
all-nighters into a conference would be trying.
agreed - wherecamp is great decompression time after where
From my perspective, WhereCamp leads Where2.0 by about 2-3 years.
We've come out of the exhilarating "here's what's just crossing the
horizon" at Where2.0 and then can move into thinking "What's just
beyond that horizon" at WhereCamp.
Anyways, that's just my opinion. Looking forward to the result of
Anselm's poll.

Also, are there space/accommodation requirements for where
WhereCamp is
held? I know at Google last year they feed us, gave us tents and
cool
places to hang out. Is all of that required by one sponsor or is
there a
possibility that those responsibilities could be divided among a few
groups. Further expanding on this thought – perhaps NASA Ames
could provide
us with the space to meet but then some other group could sponsor
food and
goodies.
Thanks,
Catherine

Hey rockstar peeps,
Ryan Sarver and I are looking around for space for WhereCamp 2009 San
Francisco - which looks like it will be on May 23rd and 24th 2009
since Where 2.0 is May 21st onwards :

Memorial Day of course is on May 25th. We think that this won't
affect
our crowd very much but if you have any thoughts about this please
advise.
We do have some choice in good spaces where we could go; notably the
awesome venues we've used before such as the Yahoo Campus - but it
just seems fair to let everybody have their say.
If you have any thoughts please dm me.
Also of course we'll be looking for sponsorship - please sponsor if
you can.
Other WhereCamp's that I know of coming up include WhereCampAfrica
(in
April 2009 I believe ) and WhereCampPDX ( in September 2009 ) - these
folks will be twittering as well into the main channel so keep your
eyes on the twitternets :

Take care,
